Hawaii Covering Kids helps to identify, enroll, and retain eligible children and youths in health insurance programs. We collaborate with federal, state, and community agencies to conduct outreach activities and help Med-QUEST simplify its processes.
A Planning Committee advises the initiative and task forces meet to plan and implement activities.
Hawaii Covering Kids is currently funded by AlohaCare, Hawaii Community Foundation, Hawaii State Department of Human Services, HMSA Foundation, and NFL Pro Bowl Charities. During 2007, grants from Chamber of Commmerce of Hawaii Public Health Fund, NFL Pro Bowl Charities, Oahu Visitor Industry Charity Walk, and Safeway Foundation paid for children's health insurance media campaigns. Hawaii's free and low-cost public health insurance programs are QUEST (managed care Medicaid) and Medicaid Fee-for-Service. Eligible children and youths must be 0 to 19 years old, live in Hawaii, meet household income, and qualify as U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or citizens of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, or Republic of Palau.
Health insurance helps children and youths get regular health care so they can participate in school and other activities. It is difficult for parents when a child is sick because of the added stress of medical bills. Through a variety of services, Hawaii Covering Kids helps enroll children in free and low-cost health insurance programs--keeping them healthy and giving their families peace of mind.
