Tuesday, 6 January 2004 Conference Planning Committee
Present: Sue Uyehara, Angie Tam Sing, Mary Rydell, Ruth Ota, Dee Helber, Barbara Luksch, Linda Colburn, and Jacqueline Rose
1. Prior to our meeting, the Conference Planning Committee agreed to host Malama i na Keiki 5 on 30 April 2004 in Lihue. The purpose of this location is to support the Hawaii Covering Kids Kauai Local Project and allow all their local coalition members to attend.
2. We reviewed the evaluations from Mälama i na Keiki 4 and suggested ways to improve the event.
3. We decided to focus on how team building contributes to the value of work.
4. Our goal: Working together we will find, enroll, and retain all eligible children and youth in public health insurance.
5. We discussed problems purchasing airline tickets. Barbara will send past conference participants and committee members a pre-registration form this week. Hawaii Covering Kids will purchase e-tickets for participants from Oahu, Maui, Hawaii, Lanai, and Molokai. They are nontransferable and nonrefundable so if the person does not attend, she/he must reimburse the project for ticket costs.
6. On 11 June 2003, our Conference Planning Committee requested Ann Marchetti from Covering Kids & Families National Program Office as a guest speaker. However, Sarah Shuptrine, director of CKF, denied our request.
7. Requested presentations are: * “Welcome to Kauai” by Wayne Nishi (Med-QUEST) and David Peters (Chief Executive Officer of Hoola Lahui Hawaii) * Maila Coleman who is a pediatrician and the Hawai‘i Covering Kids Kauai Local Project Coalition chairperson * Presentation by television anchor Kim Gennaula * Afternoon team building activity by facilitator Linda Colburn * Panel with experts on WIC, Head Start, Public Health Nursing, DOH Bilingual Health Services, and Hawai‘i Covering Kids Local Projects * Small group workshops on Med-QUEST applications and renewals
8. Barbara will email the committee members a registration form with conference information to disseminate to their organizations.
