1. Welcome and Introductions Beth Giesting, Executive Director of the Hawaii State Primary Care Association, opened the meeting at 10:00 AM and welcomed everyone. She thanked all community members for their support with the grant and future implementation of the project. She introduced Barbara Luksch, the new Project Director and twenty-two state coalition members representing twenty organizations identified themselves.
2. Project Overview A handout that explained both the national Covering Kids initiative and Hawaii's effort was reviewed including the goal, objectives, and pilot projects.
3. Identifying Additional Organizations for State Coalition The attendees suggested additional persons who could help the community-wide coalition. They include representatives from ILWU, Chamber of Commerce, Hawai'i Business Health Council, University of Hawaii at Manoa Family Center, HSTA, American Academy of Pediatrics, IHS, American Council of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Interagency Council, and church groups. Names and more ideas are welcome.
4. State Coalition Goal, Expectations, and Task Forces A handout with detailed information was discussed. There will be five task forces and everyone was encouraged to assist with as many areas as possible. A list of task force members was compiled. Barbara Luksch will organize the meeting dates and times.
5. Contact Information Barbara Luksch requested all members please update their addresses, telephone numbers, facsimile numbers, and email addresses for the project's database.
6. Next Meeting The State Coalition will meet quarterly. The next meeting is Friday, October 15 at 10:00 AM. The venue will be determined later. Suggestions are welcome for a free space accommodating approximately fifty people with adequate parking.
7. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 AM.
